Winter in the southern hemisphere is a time to wrap up and enjoy the cooler climate on offer. If you are anything like us, the idea of warm blankets, fires and finding pockets of the sun in hidden coves, is a time to unwind and shake off the pace of summer. However, the effects of winter on our skin can be a challenge — here are seven tips to keep your skin happy and hydrated this winter season.
-
Suncream is still a must! Although the sun is lower and the days are shorter the UVB and UVA (A = ageing!) are still considerable enough to warrant suncream, especially by the sea. The sun is our natural source of Vitamin D so get a good amount to help boost your winter immunity but like all things in life moderate to your individual needs.
-
Keep showers short and sweet. Hot water will dehydrate and rid your body of the necessary oils to keep your skin fresh and supple. If you come out feeling red and prickly you may have overdone it but fear not, our awakening body oil and body moisturiser are the perfect blends to nourish your skin post-cleanse.
-
Face creams. Sourcing a seriously hydrating face cream is hugely important in harsher climates like summer. Our hydrating facial moisturiser offers a barrier for the skin that is easily broken down in wintry environments. For sensitive skins, we recommend moisturising morning and night to keep your skin fresh and ready for the world.
-
Keep hydrated. This one you'd think is a no-brainer but as the temperatures drop we still need to keep our bodies hydrated. Swapping the occasional coffee for green tea which has great antioxidant effects is a great way to combat central heating and other harsh environments.
-
Cleanse softly. If you find your skin is irritated after cleansing you might want to look for something a little more relaxed for your skin. You should be feeling calm and hydrated after washing — our body wash is a natural cleanse that is great at preparing your skin for moisturising and feeling great after applying.
-
Layer up at bedtime. And we don't just mean your silk pj's and an extra wool blanket! Our number one tip is to layer up with your face moisturiser before bed, this helps maintain and prolong your skin's barrier. Oils, although possibly scary to think of at first, are in fact fantastic at keeping your skin fresh and nourished at night and are a key part of many dermatologists’ arsenal in managing many skin conditions, particularly dry skin.
-
Keep your lips soft and luscious. Protect your lips from lip eczema by not licking at those lovely smiles when you feel them drying up. A great natural lip balm is always useful to have on hand whenever you are out and about enjoying the throws and thrills of our winter landscapes.
Enjoy the winter season - so far it's been bountiful.
