Archaeological digs have recorded that the earliest use of seaweed in skincare therapy dates back to 12000 BC in Monte Verde, Chile. Masticated cuds of seaweed were found to have been cooked and mixed with native plants to help aid the local's well-being.
Romans in early Greece and across the empire recommended the consumption of seaweeds for therapeutic purposes; however, with skincare, they focused primarily on plants. This changed with the practice of thalassotherapy (Sea and marine substance therapy), which has helped further shape seaweed's role in our daily skincare rituals. From the 18th Century onwards, many British patrons would bathe and rub their skin with fresh seaweeds whilst in France pioneering new spa treatments that included hot and cold seaweed baths, vapours, wraps and ointments were reportedly used to aid our French femmes cellulite control, weight loss and help with depression, fatigue and signs of ageing.
Today seaweed plays a vital and emerging role in the way we look after our gut health, nurture cancer patients, and in our case, form our skincare. By combining ancient history with the new-age science of today, we help to create earth-conscious skincare products that reduce the carbon in our environment through seaweed's highly effective photosynthesis capabilities and form the very best skin care products that all can use.
Our company is on a mission - laid bare its healthy skin for a healthy planet. We hope you join us on the shores.
